Givers
I know firsthand that being told to practice “self-care” doesn’t necessarily help a Giver to put down his or her stress. Unlike a spa day, therapy can help a Giver explore where the pressure to prioritize everyone else originated. When we know where a pattern is born, we have a much better chance at shaping it to work better for us.
I walk clients through this process and help them to make decisions for themselves rather than for others around them. It’s amazing how many clients end up making the same decisions they would have made before therapy but feel so much less anxious about them because they are truly made from the heart. Everyone benefits when we give ourselves permission to hear and respond our own needs first.
